In the wake of the recent flood in our area, the Ithaca Board of REALTORS is working with our community to identify ways that will can help our neighbors. We found that grassroots efforts are already underway in the Town of Newfield, which is not surprising given the community we live in.

In speaking with the town officials and community coordinators, we learned that some people that want to help the relief effort may not know how to, and that people in need don’t necessarily know it is available. For this reason the Ithaca Board of REALTORS is helping to get information out to the public.  We are hoping that members of the media will assist us in our effort.

How can members of the public help?   

1. If members of the public are interested in volunteering, then Scott Moseley is coordinating work crews. They will meet at the Newfield Fire Hall at 8:00 a.m. on June 27th
2. If you can’t volunteer and want to donate funds to help the relief effort, then you can:

1. Go to IthacaRealtors.com and click on the “Donate Now” link. Credit card donations made through Crowdrise are not tax deductible at this time, but all funds collected will be distributed directly to the Newfield UMC to assist in flood relief efforts.
2. Check donations made payable to the Newfield UMC Flood Relief are tax deductible. People can send them to the Board Office or to: 229 Main Street, Newfield NY 14867

Efforts are being coordinated by Town Clerk Karen Miller Kenerson, Rev. Scott Moseley, and Rev. Mike Kelly, Newfield UMC

Where do people go to get help?

1. The Newfield Town Clerk is compiling a list of residents that need assistance, but is concerned that some don’t know that they can call.  In Newfield residents should notify their Town Clerk if they need assistance due to flood damages.
